SKYRIVER COMMUNICATIONS ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF NEW HI-SPEED WIRELESS 5.8GHZ BACKHAUL NETWORK

High speed wireless backhaul solution reduces operating cost

SAN DIEGO - December 27, 2002

SkyRiver Communications, Inc. announced the deployment of a new transparent, carrier grade high speed interconnect solution for its network of SkySecure base stations. Designed to replace the use of hi-speed T-1 lines connecting SkyRiver's SkySecureSM base stations to its Internet POP, the new wireless backhaul equipment offers lower cost while increasing the reliability and performance of the overall network. SkyRiver has implemented the solution providing a minimum of 10Mbps bandwidth at each base station in both its San Diego and Ontario, Calif. networks.

Employing Proxim's Tsunami 5.8Ghz point to point product line, the solution offers a rapid return on investment while increasing overall network reliability and scalability. Upon completion of the deployment, Scott Akrie, SkyRiver's CTO said "The key to offering carrier grade access to our distribution partners and subscribers is reliability within our core network. We expect the Proxim Tsunami product to substantially contribute to the evolution of the SkySecure network into the premium Îlast mile' and WiFi access solution in our markets".

SkyRiver has been experimenting with the Tsunami product for about three months prior to implementing its network deployment plan. Return on investment, hassle-free operation scalability and increased reliability all contributed to the decision to replace standard T-1 access lines with the new wireless backhaul network.
