SKYRIVER COMMUNICATIONS WINS CONTRACT TO DELIVER WIRELESS BROADBAND ACCESS NETWORK TO CITY OF ONTARIO
Launches Commercial Internet Access Service in Ontario in April
SAN DIEGO--April 1, 2002
SkyRiver Communications Inc., a wireless broadband network provider of high-speed Internet access, today announced it has won a contract with the City of Ontario to provide the City with broadband Internet data access beginning in May 2002.
SkyRiver will provide a private metropolitan area network (MAN) to the City of Ontario in parallel with the deployment of its own commercial network in Ontario and surrounding communities. Starting today, April 1, 2002, SkyRiver has launched commercial service through its distribution partners to businesses in the areas surrounding the Ontario International Airport, including Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Claremont, Montclair, Pomona and Ontario.
SkyRiver was selected from a field of 17 respondents to the City's Request for Proposal because of the company's extensive background in wireless data communications and for its ability to install a reliable system that can be operational quickly. SkyRiver will deliver high-speed Internet access to city buildings including libraries, the museum, and police and fire stations.
"The wireless data solution provides an opportunity to create a cost-effective, high-bandwidth network for the City, while providing Ontario businesses with greater options for Internet access," explained Mayor Gary Ovitt of the City of Ontario.
The deployment of SkyRiver's commercial network will insure the availability of high-speed Internet service for commercial businesses in Ontario as well as the surrounding communities. The SkyRiver network provides robust and secure high-speed Internet access to businesses at more cost-effective rates than traditional wireline carriers offering DSL and T-1 services. With comparable bandwidth and increased flexibility, SkyRiver offers its access service at retail rates up to 50 percent below comparable wireline offerings. In addition, SkyRiver's service features symmetrical bandwidth, delivering the same throughput for both uploads and downloads.
A key advantage of the SkyRiver network is its ability to easily deploy its equipment and antennas at a customer site and have them up and running within three business days. Two data speeds are currently offered by SkyRiver: 1.5 Mbps and 2.5 Mbps. Additional product offerings will be launched in mid-2002.
SkyRiver offers its service through a network of local ISPs and telecommunications distribution partners. It has been offering broadband access service in San Diego since November 2001. New markets in California will be launched in second and third quarters of 2002.
SkyRiver Communications Inc., founded in September 2000 and headquartered in San Diego, is a wholesale wireless broadband network provider of high value, low cost, high speed Internet access services. SkyRiver deploys and operates ``last mile'' broadband networks in San Diego and San Bernardino counties, with plans to expand to other market areas in 2002. Wireless broadband access service can be installed within three business days less expensively than traditional wire line services such as cable, DSL and T-1s.
